Play and explore · Toy Theater

Hands-on maths and reading activities

Toy Theater is a free website of virtual manipulatives: blocks, number charts, clocks and shapes you move on screen. We checked its activities for Indian classrooms and picked the ones that match NCERT and NIPUN Bharat learning for Classes 1 to 5. Each one shows its TLO (target learning outcome).

Why these work in India: they open in any browser on a phone, laptop or smart board, need no sign-up, use pictures more than words, and include Indian rupees and centimetres. We left out US money, inch rulers and American holiday games. Note for parents and teachers: Toy Theater is free because it shows ads, so please open it for younger children. Activities are in English.

Numbers and place value

Class 1 · FLN Maths

TLO: Recognises small quantities (up to 10) at a glance, without counting one by one.

Class 1–2 · Maths

TLO: Reads and counts numbers 1 to 100, spots number patterns and skip-counts in 2s, 5s and 10s.

Class 1–3 · Maths

TLO: Groups ones into tens and tens into hundreds to show the place value of 2- and 3-digit numbers.

Class 1–3 · Maths

TLO: Shows addition and subtraction as jumps forward and backward on a number line.

Operations

Class 1–2 · Maths

TLO: Finds pairs of numbers that make 10 and adds small numbers mentally.

Class 2–3 · Maths

TLO: Arranges objects in equal rows and columns to understand multiplication as repeated addition.
Pairs well with our Multiplication as Repeated Addition quiz.

Class 3–4 · Maths

TLO: Builds and recalls multiplication facts (tables) quickly and accurately.

Money, time and measurement

Class 1–3 · Maths

TLO: Identifies Indian coins and notes and makes amounts in rupees for simple buying and giving change.
Uses real Indian currency, ideal for NCERT money chapters. (The ₹2000 note in this set has been withdrawn by RBI.)

Class 2–4 · Maths

TLO: Reads time on analogue and digital clocks: to the hour, half hour and minute.

Class 2–4 · Maths

TLO: Measures and draws lines in centimetres using a ruler.
Use this centimetre ruler, not the inch one.

Teacher tool

TLO: Helps children manage time during an activity or a quiz round (a visual countdown for the class).

Shapes, fractions and data

Class 1–3 · Maths

TLO: Names 2D shapes and makes and extends shape patterns.

Class 3–5 · Maths

TLO: Combines seven shapes to make pictures, turning and fitting shapes together (spatial thinking).

Class 3–5 · Maths

TLO: Makes shapes with bands and explores sides, corners, perimeter and area.

Class 3–5 · Maths & Art

TLO: Creates symmetrical patterns and identifies lines of symmetry.
Connect it to rangoli and block-print designs.

Class 3–5 · Maths

TLO: Shows halves, quarters and other fractions of a whole and compares them.

Class 3–5 · Maths

TLO: Records simple data and reads and draws bar graphs.

Language and feelings

Class 1–2 · English

TLO: Builds and spells simple English words by moving letter tiles (phonics practice).

All classes · Value education

TLO: Names feelings and talks about them, building self-awareness and kindness.
Use with our Dussehra blog on defeating bad habits.
